Reimagining Power and Sovereignty
The 8th Edition

Message from the Secretary-General
Distinguished Delegates and Faculty Members,
My name is Adarsh Prusti and it is my utmost honour and privilege to welcome you as the Secretary-General to the 8th edition of Shiv Nadar School Model United Nations 2025. Shiv Nadar School, since its establishment, has fostered intrinsic growth on the backdrop of its core values –foremost among them, a Sense of Purpose & Responsibility– that shape our classrooms, conversations & conferences. I stand before you humbled by the responsibility that we –the 21st century– collectively shoulder. A responsibility that entails not just inheriting a world full of crises, but daring to imagine one that isn't.
Our theme for this year’s conference stands as “Reimaging Power and Sovereignty” which reflects our collective recognition that traditional notions of authority and statehood are increasingly deteriorating and inadequate for humanity. The United Nations was conceived in 1945, in a world unimaginably different from our own today. Yet we sometimes continue to approach 21st-century problems through the lens of 20th-century institutions. The multifaceted challenges catalogued in our agendas –from climate change to technological revolutions, from humanitarian crises to proxy wars– are not just diplomatic checklists, but are defining questions to decode in this contemporary era.

The ethos of Shiv Nadar School has always lied in the belief that true innovation begins when we begin to question our most fundamental and basic assumptions. I truly believe that we are not here to replicate the United Nations as it exists, but to envision what international cooperation could become if unshackled from the constraints of conventional practices.

Delegates, when you take the floor, I implore you to not merely recite policy positions but instead, articulate visions that make us reconsider what we think and term “possible”. When you draft resolutions, ask yourselves not just what can be implemented within existing structures, but what structures might better serve our globe’s most pressing needs. Each committee session is your chance and an opportunity to transcend the diplomatic simulation and become a laboratory for paradigm-shifting ideas.

Lastly, I would like to extend all my gratitude to my Secretariat who are working tirelessly, day and night, to provide you and your delegation an experience worth entering the world of Shiv Nadar School and its lively culture. If at any point during this journey you feel uncertain or unheard, know that our Secretariat stands not as an authority, but as a pillar to assist you at all times.
I’d like to leave you with some solid pre-conference sitcom advice I swear by- “Whenever I’m about to do something, I think ‘Would an idiot do that?' " - Dwight Schrute (The Office)

Use it wisely, or be the delegate your bloc pretends doesn’t exist.

Thank you, and I am eagerly looking forward to hosting you all for another unforgettable edition of SNSMUN 2025.
Until July.
Yours Truly,
Adarsh Prusti
Secretary General
